Jester

Mike Bailey recently presented on Jester in front of the Melbourne Ruby User Group:

Pete Forde from Unspace is also spreading the Jester love. He presented on Jester for the AJAX experience conference in San Francisco.

It looks like it was a blast, but don’t gnash your teeth if you missed it… He’ll be doing it again at the AJAX experience in Boston, this time with Eric (Jester’s dad) helping out. He’ll be using that as an opportunity to announce some new features for the upcoming 1.5 release.

And if I had any idea of what this site is saying, then I might mention it as well.

Shoulda

Finally, I’d like to send a big ol’ thank you partner to James Golick of GiraffeSoft who presented on Shoulda.

Shoulda is the awesome set of test macros, and extensions to test/unit by the folks over at thoughtbot. A major time and keystroke saver for test-driven developers. Read more…

I’m still working with jester-1.3.zip and was wondering if you have released a new version? drnic reported some problems using my examples with trunk.

I think there’s going to be a lot more interest in Jester – you guys were just a bit ahead of the curve.

Any chance you could setup a dedicated page for it? It would be nice to have one place for releases, documentation, changes, etc. I find trac works well for this (when the backup works!).

Mike: Eric would know better, but I think 1.5 is due to be released soon. Jester and Shoulda both have dedicated pages under http://thoughtbot.com/projects.

Thanks again for presenting on that. It’s always really good to see our tools being used.

Andrew: Yeah, I just got that email. I guess a friend of his pass away, which is really terrible news. I did contact the BRG offering to speak about Shoulda, but I’m going to be out of town through monday night, so I’m not sure if that will work out.

Mike – actually, jesterjs.org is in the works, I hope to have it ready this month, before the Ajax Experience presentation. I plan on having the 1.5 release out by then too. Dr. Nic sent me a partial fix for the bug you experienced, which I’ll be integrating into it, and I’ll attempt to fix the rest. You can also see where everything’s at in SVN, instead of depending on the zip of 1.3.

This is great. Ironically, it is practically verbatim the interface of a plugin we’ve been using the past few months internally on a few projects.

Maybe it’s a Philipp Reiss and Alexander Bell situation. Anyways kudos for publishing shoulda.

Our project team may have a few ideas to throw your way the one we’re using internally isn’t published if you guys are open for suggestions.

I’ve been thinking about ways to integrate form-test-helper into shoulda, as it really fills a hole in the current way we test our controller/view interactions.
