We built Shoulda, an eclectic set of additions to Test::Unit; Paperclip to manage uploaded files without hassle; factory_girl a replacement for Rails fixtures; Jester, a REST/ActiveResource client written in Javascript, and Squirrel, an enhancement for ActiveRecord's find syntax; — amongst some other projects.

Chad (President) and Jon (CTO) co-authored a technical book titled Pro Active Record: Databases with Ruby and Rails, which explores the ins and outs of the ActiveRecord ruby library. You can buy it today at Amazon.com.

Actually, this handles a number of problems I found that bugged me about the ;edit syntax when Chad, Floyd, and I were discussing the change back to slashes the other day. Seems like it could be slow for web users though, since you’re adding an XML-transported middle layer. It’d be better for abstraction, of course, but I wonder if things will still be snappy enough.

Speed would be an issue, but it shouldn’t be too hard to make the connection between the HTML and REST servers persistent. Another large impact from this design would be that you couldn’t do DB queries directly from the HTML layer. That’s such a big deal, though, as it just forces you to abstract those to where they should be—methods on your models.
